Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1997 BMW 328 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic high miles

Hi guys, I have a a low whine/rumble from the rear end under acceleration/load only. If you are gentle with the accelerator there is almost no noise but up hills or if you put your foot down the noise is there. Under deceleration it is gone although being an auto there is not much load from engine braking. Also it doesn't seem to appear if cruising below about 40mph unless you accelerate.
If it is the diff, can anything be added to the oil to quieten it or should I replace/recondition.

Thank you

Hi there,

this is sounding like a diff, as a wheel bearing will whine all the time, do not waste money with stop noise treatments, as the noise will be a bearing failing or gear wear, if left a major failure can occur costing a lot more to repair, get it looked at now.
