Most 15 year old vehicles have an average of 180k miles so 160k is a little better than average actually. Nobody can tell you when something is going to go bad on the vehicle. Parts fail because of wear and tear, they also fail due to improper maintenance of the vehicle. As long as you keep up with the recommended maintenances at the appropriate mileage intervals then you are extending the life of all of the vehicle's parts for as long as possible, that's the best you can do.

Hello –

Vehicles now days go 200,000 or more. There are many different variables that determine how long it will last. Driving conditions, the way it is driven, general maintenance care etc.

To me, general things don’t really count. Tires, battery, brakes, shocks etc.

The way I figure it is when my maintenance cost exceed a monthly car payment it is time to go.

If you put $2000 into your car for a repair but this lasted for two years….that is only about $84 a month…….not even close to a car payment.
