Warranty problem
1986 BMW 325 6 cyl Automatic

My 1986 325e automatic has no reverse and when I put the car in drive the car has to warm up for the gears to shift properly. I live in Florida so I do not think the cold is affecting the car.

HI there, this transmission is slipping badly, have you checked the oil level, if low get it topped up and get into a transmission specialist as the slippage is doing damage and you are heading for a major transmission over haul this is not address sooner rather than later, hopefully it is not to late now.

Yes as a matter of fact the oil was just replaced and the oil filter too. And what kind of transmission would you recommend I buy to replace the old 4-speed

There is two transmissions listed in Mitchell 1 to suit this car, ZF4HP 22H/ EH and ZF 4HP 24-E there will be an I.D plate attached, but just to be sure I would be guided by a transmission specialist or you dealer, often it works out cheaper to get yours o/hauled. And the quality will be the same.
