Electrical problem
2001 Audi A6 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Just installed a new alternator and jumped the old dead battery and it now overcharges showing the P0563 OBD code. I thought the voltage regulator would prevent this kind of problem. I am being told that if a new alternator is installed and the battery is not charged, it will cause this condition. Please help as this job requires again pulling the front clip to access the alternator. The alternator was $300 and I don't want to throw good money after bad if there is an underlying problem. I don't want to return the alternator if there is nothing wrong or that the next one will do the same thing. Installed a new battery and the overcharge is still showing on the amp gauge. Help!

That looks like a pretty simple system. You are going to need access to the alt wiring and a meter to check continuity between the charge wire on the back of the alt (Black wire) and the battery. and the blue wire to the ignition switch.Have you checked to see exactly how much it is charging? be sure the ground is good to the engine as well

Hi
To find your problem make a easy test start the car and remove ground from battery the engin still runig and now check voltage without battery connected if the voltage is 14 or 14.5 volts the alternator is ok and problem is battery but if the voltage is 16 or 17 the problem is voltage regulator
Waring if you doing this test make sure to turn on all electrical consumers cause if you have overcharing have possibly to damage ecu
Sorry for my bad english
