1998 Audi A4 How do you pull out a 1998 Audi A4 1.8 t engin

Hi I have a 1998 Audi A4 1.8 T and im thinking a piton blew so I want to take the Engine out and rebuild it if I can but I don't no if if comes out under the car or on top and it has a Manual Tranny wood it be easy to pull them out at the same time can you help me thanks

Before you pull engine run a compression test. May have burnt a valve.
Engine comes out top side and you can pull trany attached.

Its the piston you can start the car makes a rely bad noise deep in the engine far back its not on top what sucks the one other thing I wanted to no is it easer to pull the tranny with the engine or easer just to leave the tranny in and if I can rebuild the engine or put a nother one in it. Thanks

For me easier to pull with manual trans an auto i'd leave in. But trying to line up clutch, input shaft and mount to bellhousing is a real pain. Bone yard engine would be cheaper over rebuild but if want to keep car few more years you'll be better off with rebuild.
