My car is a 1994 Pontiac TransAm with only 55,000 miles. Automatic transmission. V8 engine. The low milage is because it's only driven a couple times a week. The car recently began to skip. It was like it was about to run out of gas with a full tank. Took it to the dealer and the distributor was replaced at the tune of $1400.00. When I picked it up, stupidly paying first, the car was still skipping and now it shivers when idleing. Took it back and was told it didn't seem to be sparking and even though the idle problem was not there before, I was told I'd have to pay to have it fixed. The whole thing is making me suspicious and broke. Also wondering if the distributor even needed replacement.
Thanks for your help.

You might want to pull codes from the computer. This may be a vacuum leak or carbon issue. I don't know that you'll ever find out if the distributor was a problem, I understand why you would be skeptical.

I don't see any codes on my bill that look like the diagnostic trouble codes listed. I don't quite understand what is meant by pulling the codes from the computer.

There are codes in the computer. You need a scanner to reteive them. Codes are set for a variety of malufunctions that can greatly aid in troubleshooting.
