I have a 99 Dakota automatic transmission, 3.9 v6 The truck has 64xxxx miles. The first couple of times through the gears it has a hard time getting from 2nd to 3rd. All other gears are fine. After engine heats up the problem goes away. Transmission or filter/fluid?

You could try a flush but this one sounds internal, possibly the pump or converter going south, but if the fluid is dirty try the flush first and go from there, if you need more help let us know and if the engine light is on have it checked and get back to us

thanks, jim

I too have a transmission problem.
In high gear, there seems to be a bounce in the RPM's, especially when I hit bumps or accelerate. I am hoping this is caused by a faulty solenoid or sensor somewhere. Currently I am getting a P0505 code which pertains to the idle speed motor. I cleaned this with Carb cleaner, and the transmission problem has only happened since this cleaning. Could a new Idle sensor be the fix?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Shorty.

Just checked the fluid. It appears clean and doesn't smell. My local mechanic says the transmission has to be replaced. Then he asked me how much I wanted for mt truck.?
