98 Ranger XLT Extended cab, Manual Transmission, LOTS OF MILES (205,000). Great shape except I recently had a problem start with the clutch.

On 2 occasions, one while parked and one on the road, the clutch pedal started acting up. I am trying to figure out if it requires a clutch replacement, clutch master cylinder replacement, or a clutch pedal/piston replacement.

What has happened is that sometimes, the clutch pedal will go all the way to the floor like its not connected to anything. On other occasion it wouldn't go in at all. In both cases, if I let it sit, it would correct itself. Any guidance or direction?

The clutch has air in it that is why it goes to the floor there is no adjustment it is automatic so you can check the clutch by putting the truck in the air and looking through the rubber hole in the bottom of the transmission. This will let you see if the clutch is wore out or not.

Just an FYI the Ford Ranger clutches are a real pisser to bleed due to the fact the slave is part of the throw-out bearing assembly.

Ford wanted $200 to bleed it.

The bleeding could take half a dozen times or more until you get all the air out.
I had the same problem after I did the clutch on my 96 4.0 XLT ext cab finally after 6 times I haven't had any problems for a while---crossing my fingers!
