I have a 98 grand am se quad 4, with 131000 miles. It overheats only when the heater control (temp selector) is in the full hot position. A few notches below full hot, and it does not overheat. IT does this independent of fan position, driving style, driving speed, ambient temp, etc. When I turn the heat down a bit, and shut the engine off momentarily, it cools right back down. Any ideas?

Any white smoke from the tail pipe? Any coolant in the oil? Any coolant on the ground? I've had multiple problems with my 98 GA overheating and it could be one if a lot of things. More information would be helpful.

No, no no to all your questions! That is what is so weird with this one. No leaks, no coolant loss, no evidence of a blown head gasket. It has me baffled, but since I can avoid the problem simply by not turning the heat to full hot, I have not tried to fix it.

Well, rather than running up the repair bills, I'd just simply not put the heat on high... That is a strange issue. Usually putting the heat on high helps with overheating issues...
