Hello, I'm new here and don't know much about cars... so please bear with me ^_^'

Anyway, while driving today, my 97 Catera (100K+ mileage, 3.0 L V6... hope that helps) lost all power for half a second. The seat belt sign started beeping like I had just turned the car on. Later on, I went to start the car and it won't start. I can't even get the doors to lock.
Although this has happened only once before (I slammed the hood of the car and it started just fine) no matter what I try it won't start.
I'm guessing it's loss of electrical power, but I'm not sure.
Any help/info is appreciated.

It's the slam that solves it! Look for a bare braided silver wire, it a ground strap make sure it's connected!
