92 Diamante LS, 3.0L DOHC engine with 67,400 miles

Last week I was in sloooow traffic, when at a stop light, I noticed wisps of steam coming from the hood. I looked at the dash panel and saw that the coolant temperature was into the red.

No warning or check engine lights came on, just the hot temperature showing on the gauge and steam. Once traffic moved again, the engine cooled down. Later, at home, I checked everything out.

The twin electric radiator fans, which are supposed to automatically kick on at around 85 degrees, were not doing so. I checked all of the fuses for the fans, both inside the engine compartment and inside the car, and they were all good. Later, I replaced the radiator fan temperature switch on the radiator and the thermo sensor on the engine. Still no cycling or movement from either fan.

I checked the codes, but no error codes show up. I’m baffled. One minute both fans are working properly, and the next minute, both stopped doing their job. Sure wish I had a regular fan belt.

I have a Chilton Manual, but for this problem, its next to useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try turning your ac on max to see if the fans kick on at all, if they do then you can rule out bad fan motors.

The A/C fan works fine, and the twin fans on the radiator, if I apply direct current, by-passing all the different thermo switches and fuses that make the radiator fans come on automactically, also work.

I ruled out bad radiator fan motors two days before I bought any new switches orI posted my question.
