Can you tell me how I can get my car out of park it will not go into gear at all

I would start with the brake pedal. There is a switch that lights the brake lights but there is also the sensor that tells the tranny that the car has the brakes applied and it is ok to allow shifting. The switch could be bad or the sensor.
