I am working on a fork lift. The engine is bcakfiring. When you are running the machine to high idle as it decelerates the engine acts like it is going to die then back fires. What could the problem be?

Hi there, is this a petrol or LPG fueled engine?

OK check the ignition leaks are not cross firing, ( that is leaking voltage across each other) this is often visible by light Grey deposits on the leads where they may be bundled together, check the distributor cap for tracking, check vacuum leaks and check gas mixture, all these will cause this problem.
