1995 Corolla Problem

I have a 1995 Corolla DX with 140,000 miles on it. It is a 2.8 liter engine and automatic transmission. When it goes in first gear it hesitates and feels like it is going to stall and also reves higher. But then i let the foot of the gas and it goes into second and then third gear fine. Can you please help me.

Sounds like the tranny is slipping or problems with the shift solenoids
