1987 Grand Marquis ( I need help bad)

My 87 Grand Marquis starts, runs for a while then shuts off and hast to "cool down" before it will start again. The fuel pump is not that old. A while ago a friend that runs a repair shop told me that it was something right on "top" of the engine I forgot what he said it was. I have to get this car running. Can anyone please help me :)

What engine? I would think it might be the ignition module on the distributor of a 5.0L.
