I have 1984 CJ 7 that originally had an AMC 150. A rebuilt 151 is there now. I have a chance to replace it w/ a 258. Will the 258 bolt to the transmission? [img:1654760b8e]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/62298_P3040006_1.jpg[/img:1654760b8e]

I thought a mechanic was suppose to answer questions posted. Here is the answer I found:

It depends what you are going to use your Jeep for. You have a ton of options, T4, T5, T150, T176, T177, T18, you can go automatic too. I would suggest a T176. Similiar to the T4, but much stronger and more reliable. Good for a DD or trails.
The 258's use a 1 1/8" 10 spline input shaft, just need to find one with that. You should be able to use the Dana 300 case as long as you have the right adapter to the tranny.

As far as someone telling you that a SR4 or T4 won't work.... I've got a factory T4 in my 84 CJ7. I'm not saying that's the one to go with, but I'm simply saying a 258 had T4's in them from the factory.
