Hi there. My friend has a scout that has trouble cranking and when I do finally get it started it runs fine for about 5 minutes and will die in just a split second, like the ignition was turned off. No stumbling or anticipation of shutting down. It will then restart, run fine, and shut down again. He swears that a faulty starter will cause a vehicle to quit running, but I have never heard of this. I've dealt with a lot of bad starters before, and they would run fine, just wouldn't start well. Is this the case? I do think the starter is bad, but don't think it would cause it to quit. I already suspected and replaced the "Gold box" igntion module so I don't think that's the problem unless the new one is faulty. Fuel, plugs, wires, cap and rotor seem to be fine. Thanks, Hope you can help.

Check the fuel pressure. Next time it dies don't touch the key-look for power immediately at the coil.

Check the wiring going through the fire wall the plug on scouts is a bad design and sometimes builds corrosion and disconects power to coil and other parts.
