I have an Acura TL 2002. The gas tank was half full when I accidently filled the rest with 24litres of 'gold diesel', drove home (1km). I drove 4 blocks home with no problems. How much damage have I done to my car? Which parts might I have problems with? Is it enough to drain the fuel tank and re-fill it? What else can I do to stop any damage?

Hi redblurb,

Damage was already done when you drove it home. Just drain, refill and replace the fuel filter and hope for the best.

Before installing fuel filter, you can try to drain some of the fuel from pump to fuel tank by attaching a collecting bottle to the supply pipe and turning the ignition switch on and off a few tmes, each time for 2 seconds to purge the residue.

I was told that I could access the fuel pump through the trunk; so I tried, to no avail. I didn't see anything in my trunk that looked like it would be attached to a fuel pump, and I am having trouble seeing under my car to look for the drain nut on the bottom of the fuel tank. Can you give me some specific direction as to where I could find either of these? And which is best, easiest, most practical to access and drain the tank?

The easiest way is to use the drain plug under the tank. Park over a drain and you can get access to the tank.

In the trunk you would find a service hole which you need to remove to get at the fuel pump.
