Can't get the trunk to close.

Have cleaned & lubed the latch.
Have removed the insulation to check for broken cables, or loose parts.
Have observed for an alignment issue---not a problem that I can notice.
Latch is NOT in a closed position.
Cannot find an unbolted trunk lid hinge, etc.
No broken parts or dangling mechanisms.

Neither the key FOB, interior trunk release button or any other step seem to help.
Slamming the trunk lid does not work.
Emergency inside trunk release cable seems to be fitted okay, but I cannot tell how loose it is supposed to be when connected to the latch.

Is this a problem only the body shop can spot and repair?
Thanks for the assistance.

Hi ArtHathcock,

Use a screwdriver to act as lock striker to lock the latch. Does the latch lock?

The mechanism will not let the plastic tooth lock around the rod and keep the trunk closed.

Did you perform the test I suggested and what was the result?

Disconnect the cable from the latch and try using a screwdriver to lock, do not close the trunbk lid.
