before replacing pump may want to check the fuse and fuel pump relay first. can you hear the fuel pump kick in when you first turn the key in ignition?

i have replaced the fuel filter(a friends initial recommendation). i took out the main relay and the soldering looks perfect(thats the only thing i know to look for). i didnt even think of the fuses, though. thank you!

all i hear is the starter itself. engine wont even turn over. i loosened the filter and no fuel comes out.

you can follow this link to learn how to test a relay

https://www.2carpros.com/how_to/how_do_i_check_a_relay.htm

so the engine is cranking but won't start ?? or engine is not even cranking? if its not cranking at all then is not a fuel problem.
