just bought this vehicle...checked compression and good all cylinders, replaced thermostat and checked all fluid levels. car drives well but after driving about 1 hour highway, as soon as I pulled to stop temp climbed to the top. As soon as driving again went down below red but still higher that what I thought should be normal. Both fans working and continue to run even after shutting down car. No smoke or fluid leaks that I can find? Now I'm perplexed????/

Hi sleepster69, Welcome to 2carpros and TY for the donation

Check the radiator if its partially clogged and water pump doing its job circulating coolant thruout the engine could be weak. If there's no boiling over maybe the coolant temperature is out of calibration or the new thermostat is acting up-one control s the temperature and the other reads the temperature.

As I said I dont see any leaks so how do I determine if pump is working correctly. Another thing.... resev for overflow is full but when removed rad cap to check fluids again, noticed a silver residue . turned on heater to full and left cap off. did bubble some and then some fluid started to pump out. does this mean pump is working if water pushed out in a pattern? refilled rad and replaced cap....thanks again

Checking water pump-remove radiator cap start vehicle up let it run a few mins. CAUTION -now pinch the upper hose for a few secs while looking into the radiator opening let go the hose -you should see an increase in flow if the water pump is doing its job
