Hi mmartin66,

It definitely is transmission problem if you do not have any grinding noise when gears are engaged.

Did you check the transmission fluid level?

Try shifting to other gears and see if it works.

It does not move in any gear. My son says the only movement the car does is goes up and down when I put it in gear.

With gears in P, release the handbrake and see if you are able to move the vehicle.

If yes, you have a drive axle problem.

If not, too bad, the trans or torque converter is bad.

It doesnt budge at all. Im pretty sure its the transmission also. How much does it cost to replace the converter and is it even worth it? Car is in great shape, just 2 little rust spots ( great for living in Hawaii ), new tires and windshield. Air runs great too..

Yes, problem is with the transmission and for the age of the vehicle, it would be difficult to get a used unit. Rebuilding would cost at least 2k.
