Electrical problem
1995 Acura Integra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 150k miles

Hi, before I go out and spend useless money. I would like to know if I have a battery or alternater problem. After my 1995 integra sits for a while, I turn the key and nothing happens, no noises at all. All the interior lights, radio, radar and dash lights come on, but no start. After I turn the key several times it finally starts. It's not a new battery, so could it be that? It happens only when the car sits more then a couple hours, otherwise it starts right up.

Hi probowld,

So far it don't seem like a battery problem to me. If it is a battery problem, no matter howw you try, it would not work.

Likewise it should not be the alternator as well. If the alternator is bad, the battery would be weak.

The problem lies with the following
1. Stater motor. If there is a clicking noise when ignition switch is cranked, then the starter carbons might be worn. Try knocking the starter a few times to see if it works when it happens. If it works, the starter is bad. If not, remove the starter solenoid wire and attach a remote wire to apply battery voltage. If starter works, the next step is to check ignition switch.

2. Ignition switch. You need a few cranks to get it working. You need to test the starter solenoid wire from ignition switch for power supply while cranking.
