I have a 1991 Acura Integra, now when I go into second gear there is a Hygh screeching sound that sounds like it is coming from just behind the steering column but in the engine, It almost sounds like a belt, but the belts are fine and it sometimes gets extremley loud im not sure what it is.

Hi,

The belts might look fine, but what about the tension of the belts?

Some slack in the tension will cause slippage thus the screeching noise. Try applying some water to the belts and see if they screech when you rev the engine.

I really do appreciate the help. One more thing I did spray some stuff on the belts that is for that, but it is still is making a loud noise it does not make the noise unless I am actually driving. It does not make the noise if I am parked and reving up the engine.

Hi jessegalindo,

I do not know what type of noise that is but if sounds like belts slipping, then behind the steering wheels is the alternator. I still suspect the belts.

Does the noise happen only during acceleration and how long does it last?

A slipping belt sometimes will not show during free reving. Try driving with AC and all electrical loads off and then again with AC and headlights plus other electrical loads on and see if there are any differences.

If the belt multiple ribs are worn, they are not providing a good grip on the grooves.

Try twisting the belt at its longest part and if the resistance is low, the tension of the belt is not enough.
