Electrical problem
1990 Acura Integra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 186k miles

I've rebuilt my Integra and put bigger cams and bored it "30 over and some other goodies. Ever sence I put my motor back in I've been throwing a code 4. Crank Shaft sensor. Well I've tryed 3 different distrbutors and still is throwing the code. My alternator went out and when I charge the battery to move the car it wouldn't through a code 4. I could drive it down the road (untill battery was about to die) and it ran great. I had my alternator rebuilt and put on and now it's back throwing code 4. Seems to me when the alternator wasn't working and pushing the full volts then it wouldn't throw code 4 but when I start pushing the full volts it will throw the code 4. Why is this? Should I put something on there to rezise the power that is running to the distrbutor so insted of a full 14amp running It would be like 12amp or so???

Hi Adam112286,

The problem you are having seems more like the ECM or its wiring circuit. Have you tried swapping the ECM?

I did put a different ECM in and it still don't make a difference. As soon as I start the car it throws the code. Limits itself to 3000rpm. Why would it not throw the code when the alternator wasn't working and now that it's working it throws the code? We checked all the wires from the ECM with a omes meter and all wires check out just fine. We even tryed to run two jump wires from the ECM to the sensor itself in the distributor and still didn't make a difference.

Hi Adam112286,

Did you test the resistance of the crank sensor? The distributor could have been ok then but is bad now. I can't think of any other possible reasons except the above.
