My acura has 207000 miles on it. I notice when I crank it up its idled kinda high like around 1200rpm and I have to wait like 3-5 mins before it calms down to may 1000-800rpm. And when I go to shift in reverse it shifts hard. Also when I come to a stop my Rpms gauge rises up and come back down and I feel a slight pull before I stop. What could be going on

Hi kaylachavous,

For cold starting, the rpm is increased and the symptoms described are correct. However the idling speed should go down to 650 - 750 rpm after warming up.

The engine is surging due to the idling speed being higher than expected.

Possible causes are :
1. Idling speed adjusted too high.
2. Clogged coolant hoses to the IAC or lack of coolant in system.
3. Faulty IAC.
