2008 Honda Accord battery Charger maintainer

My 2008 Honda accord manuel says disconnect battery cables while charger maintainer is connected, is this necessary?

If you disconnect the battery, you won't need a long-term battery charger. It's the numerous computers that drain the battery when the engine is not running. Without a battery maintainer, you should still be able to start the engine after three weeks, but any longer is pushing your luck.
