A lot of code readers can erase codes. If you take negative battery cable loose, that can cause additional problems, but, should erase codes. If the problem isn't fixed, it will just come back.

Otherwise, if the problem is fixed, 30 to 50 warm-up cycles, the code should no longer be in memory.

A trouble code and its duration can be determined by referring to the OBDII criteria for that model.
