2007 VW Hatch will not start. Previous owner said it was a relay, possibly the ignition relay. But now the car has been sitting idle and turns over but will not start like it was a timing issue, but i pulled the top belt cover and the timing belt appears to be intact. When turning the engine over there is a squelch like metal on metal or poorly lubed metal rubbing. what could the problem be?

What engine?

Broken fuel pump cam follower can cause no start issues & noise.

Might be best to have it looked at by a shop.
