My Jeep liberty window regulators in all four windows went out. I took it to the dealership, and they told me that they can be replaced, but there may be a short causing the regulators to go out. The motors are still running, you can hear them when you try to move the windows up and down. I wanted to know if a short can cause the regulators to go out, and if so will replacing them be useless if I don't fix the possible short first?

The regulators are an assembly they are part of the motor and probably if the motor works they have broken cables which a short would have no effect on them. However if the motor doesn't' work due to a short then that would be your problem. Are you sure it's not a switch in the door?

That's what the dealership mechanic told me. Cool. I just did not want to waste money buying new regulators only to have them break again. But looking for someone to do it without bending me over has been a pain. I thought there was a recall on this part, but they cant find a record of it.

Those window regulators are a known problem. They use a plastic piece that is bonded to the lifting cable in the regulator assy. That plastic piece wears and fails. You can replace them with OEM parts and have the same result if you use the windows a lot. OR you can buy steel replacement parts and repair the regulators you have. It's actually very easy. There are two places o buy the parts. Steiger Performance developed them, and gets about 100.00 per part. OR you can hit the auction site and buy all 4 windows for around 80 dollars. Both also have the instructions online.
