It can turn off under any condition if there is a problem.

Let's say there is NO problem. I get out of my car while in (D) on a slight incline and the car is running. Is it possible that the car can just turn itself OFF?

Yes, the engine can stall at any time. I don't recommend leaving the vehicle in gear when you get out.
