Can a Lincoln Navigator engine turn off in the (D) drive position on an incline with no foot on the gas or brake petal?

It can turn off under any condition if there is a problem.

Let's say there is NO problem. I get out of my car while in (D) on a slight incline and the car is running. Is it possible that the car can just turn itself OFF?

Yes, the engine can stall at any time. I don't recommend leaving the vehicle in gear when you get out.
