Center audio display sometimes very dim.

I have a 2006 Honda Civic lx coupe with 68000 miles. My question involves the sound system. Sometimes the center audio display is so dim it cannot be seen and part of it has gone out. Is this just something that can be solved by replacing a fuse or is it more involved?

No fuse for that, but if it's intermittent there are very small incandescent light bulbs behind the display or you have the more common vacuum florescent display tube that has intermittent solder connections. Light bulbs can be replaced but they're usually expensive because they're so tiny or specially-shaped. If you have a nearby tv repair shop, they may be willing to look at it but they won't be able to test it. Radios today need turn-on signals from some type of Body Computer on the car. You may also have to enter an unlock code when you reinstall the radio.

A tv repair shop should be able to handle bad solder connections too but many of them won't work on car radios that they can't power up and test on their work bench. In that case you're stuck going back to the dealer. I have no experience with Honda dealers but I DO know the two authorized repair shops for GM products are grossly over-priced and there's nothing those owners can do. They got'cha.
