best way I can explain it. When it is idling it sounds like it is trying to keep from dying and when I'am driving it decelerates and I have to stomp on the gas or pull over and put it in park to give it gas and it stutters a lot. the check engine light stays on. My ex is a mechanic he got the codes but I didn't write them down and he has lost them three times and he was sure it was the fuse box why it was having issues and still is. well it wasn't the fuse box it didn't fix anything but it was expensive. now he changed the headlight lamp and he had to jump my van twice and telling me i might get stranded. the van has died once since Thursday & the issue with my van stuttering and trying not to die is getting worse. Any possible solutions? I want to know what I'am possibly looking into so I can take it to a shop that isn't going to tell me to pretty much replace the engine. I want to find the problem & fix it. It's a good van. I do intend on taking it to Autozone to check the battery and get those codes for me so I can see what is going on. Thanks for any info.

I got the code. Now time to look it up. It is:P0420 my ex (who is a mechanic) said the code is for an O2 sensor or catalytic convertor. I need to know if this is going to prevent passing inspection. Next step is to call to shops to find out after I confirm what the code means. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

as listed before i got the code P0420 is there a way to reset the check engine light myself so i can get my car inspected? I do not have a lot of funds and need this issue resolved. I do not know where I can go that is reasonable to take care of this issue i do not want to be used and taken advantage of. if you can suggest anything I would greatly appreciate it. thank you.
