I changed the coolant temp sensor on my 2006 chevy cobalt ss but the temp is still not reading on the instrument panel. I went to auto zone they hooked it up to the computer and it said the temp sensor was not reading correctly so I bought a new one but the temp is still not reading all the time. When its cold cooling temp wont read but as the day progresses the car will start reading them coolant temp

As usual, a free code read never identifies a bad part, just a failed system. Autozone is in the business to sell parts, not repair cars.

You need a real shop with a real tech to properly diag the code and pinpoint your failure and give you a bid.

What was the code number?

You dont need a dealer. Find a good repair shop that has a scan tool and they can monitor the readings cold and hot to see where the issue lies. You will have to spend money for the diag but it beats throwing parts at it that dont repair the car.
I still think it may be thermostat related.

I had to put anew thermostat in my SS. It was doing the same thing, would never really warm up. Turns out it was stuck open, works perfect now.
