2006 BMW X3 Repair Question

06' X3 brakes
I have an 06' x3 in need of new brakes. My brother tells me that i can not just push the caliper pistons in without damaging the ABS system/pump. Is this true?

Turn piston fully back with special tool 34 1 050.
