My service engine light came on and I took it to an independent shop who informed me that I needed to replace my egr valve gasket and my upper intake gaskets. I replaced the egr gasket and the upper and lower intake gaskets figured I would do the lower since I am changing the upper. I did not have a scanner so I disconnected the battery while changing all the gaskets. I drove the Montero for 2 days and the check engine light came back on and took it to o'reilly and got it scan and the same code came up P071 and p0174 (bank 1 to lean and bank 2 to lean) I just don't know what else to do to the monty to get rid of that dreaded light.
your help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Check fuel pressure with a gauge a local pro will need to do it as it requires an adapter. Shold be 38 psi at idle.

In my first reply I said to check fuel pressure which will cause the lean condition and in second reply I said to have a local pro scan for an abs problem for the other problem as and auto parts store can't check your other problem.S

Took to shop, got tested and came up with the codes of P0171 and P0174 they did further testing and 3 possible thing fuel regulator, fuel pump. The informed me that they couldn't do the fuel pressure test apparently who ever own the Montero before me spliced the fuel line leading from the fire wall into the fuel rail so they are going to find out how much the parts are for that and how much to replace it and then test it so going to wait for next pay period to get it done since I only budgeted myself for the scanning.

I gave the spec in first reply for fuel pressure and yours is to low, that will cause the 171 and 174 code. So it' s probably fuel pump if mechanic tested for regulator already.

Hmac300 well we replaced the fuel pump tonight and afterword's we tested the pressure and we got a reading of 35 to 36 psi does it take time to get up to pressure at idle? We drove it around a couple of blocks and the idle seems fine and no I am at a lost to how come the pressure didn't get up to 38 or more since its now I don't know if I would need to change the fuel pressure regulator as well

Dsconnect vacuum line and block it, if it rises to 47-50 psi it should be ok. Also rev engine several times with vacuum connected and see if it stays at 35 or so if it does don't worry about it. The spec is approximately 38 psi. So try that first.
