Does the engine light come on and engine stop if the timing belts go as we are waiting on parts and were told by mechanic camshaft seal need replacing and oil was leaking on timing belts and now the car has stopped and engine light came on

You best be checking the timing belt, if it fails the engine will not run and you will have done vale damage as well, why did he not just buy a timing belt kit, they are readily available at all parts shops and contain belt, tensioner, pulleys and all seals.

Get a scan done to check what trouble codes are stored.
