Dodge Caravan Engine Problem

I have a 2005 Grand Caravan with about 119,000 miles. Recently, there is a sound from the engine that sounds almost like a diesel engine. It is a very rhythmic whoomp-whomp-whomp sound (not rattling or knocking) and can be heard loudest when in park, neutral and when I am stopped at lights, etc. When I am driving, I can hear it faintly. Any ideas?
