I need a little more information in order to diagnose this problem.

1. By front of engine you mean the side where the belts (passenger side) are right?

2. Is the noise louder in park of in gear?

3. does the noise increase and decrease with engine speed?

Meanwhile, check for vacuum leaks. check the small hose which runs from the engine (paaasenger side) to the windshield washer reservior area. its a vacuum hose and ofeten is accidently disconnected during certain repairs.
