I have a 2005 chevy 6.6 diesel and it's starting to surge at an idle what are the most common things that cause this?

What do I need to check parts are very expensive so I want to make sure be for I buy anything

first, does it have any codes?
the injectors may be the issue but need to be tested before any repairs are even attempted.
the fuel pressure needs to be verified as well.

you need a good truck shop with the proper tools to do these tests. then you can find the exact failure and can proceed with your repairs.
guessing on these motors is very expensive and mostly always wrong.

Thanks no codes, the idle just jumps up and goes right back like someone taps the gas every 2 to 3 seconds
