While driving the car a few weeks ago, the temperature guage literally pegged and turned red, then it would go down, then up again. I stopped and let it cool down and replaced water and antifreeze. Later, I replaced antifreeze again when I returned home. Drove it just fine for a few weeks and then took a trip down the freeway even without a problem. A few days later I hit the freeway and the temp gauge started pegging again. I heard a thump before I could get off at the next exit. When I tried filling the radiator, it started pouring out of the car toward the middle left of the engine. I had to call AAA and have it towed home. What could be the issue and how much is it going to run me?

It might be best to look at what you want for a final outcome. Repair will require an investment of time and money. Replacement of the vehicle could be an option. The story of what happened is one I have heard many times, it usually involves repairing the engine after a bit of comparative shopping (Am I getting the best deal for my money and am I protecting my automotive investment) Cost to save an overheated M54 motor with the cylinder head bolts pulled out of the block is usually much cheaper than replacement of the entire engine. Let me know what you think
