Gear selects third instead of first

Hi.
Our corsa is selecting 3rd wen u push accross as far as it goes and forward instead of 1st. What could be the issue.
If you go into neutral and wiggle the stick a little then try again it tends to work.

sounds like adjustment/wear problem. take shift console apart and inspect.

also watch what happens at transmission end of linkage when operating shifter.
