2004 Saturn Ion Repair Question

2004 Saturn Ion 4 cyl security light
2004 Saturn Ion 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 64,000 miles. I think that a sensor is out the security light flashes and I cant start the car for a while, then it starts, but now it won't start and my mechanic told me that its the security which makes sense. How can I fix the probably without spending a bundle?

We would suspect the key or key reader, (if chip key is used) A diagnostic code read should give you information of any ECU sensor faults.
