I have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe that has 170000 miles. Mainly highway and has always had routine maintence done. Couple months ago I noticed when I take it ouf of park into any gear I feel a vibration in both front seats and steering wheel and on both floor boards. Had all tires balanced and alignment done. Tires are fine. Had new struts put on since 1 mechanic said that was the problem. Had another trustworthy mechanic look at engine and transmission, hooked it up to computer no codes showed up. Doesn't always vibrate and doesnt get worse when accelerating.

My car, a 2004 Vibe just started to do the same thing. A bad vibration only under load. Felt in the front end, steering wheel and seats. Also sounds like something is hitting, metal to metal. At first I was thinking that it was something more serious, and maybe it is, but now i'm thinking that it may be an engine or transmission mount. Any feedback would be helpful and appreciated.

It is most likely the motor mounts. The first mount to fail in most cases is the front engine mount. Try testing it by putting the parking brake on. Do this carefully. Then give it some quick gear engaged gas. If the engine moves more than an inch or two, the mounts are in need of replacement.
Motor mounts along with the transmisison mount must be replaced all at the smae time.
This is because the load gets shifted to the older mounts when the new stiffer mount is installed which causes them to fail and the pattern goes on until you eventually have to replace the first motor mount you installed
