04NISSANMAXIMA CHECKENGINELIGHT

2004 Nissan Maxima • 6 cylinder FWD Automatic • 116 miles

2004 Nissan Maxima 4dr SE w/116k miles is giving me headaches!
December 2010, Engine (74k miles used) and 3 (new) coils were replaced, after my car shuttered and shut off on the highway twice ($3200 and without a vehicle for 2 months). A little over a month ago, an idiot rear ended me, pushing me into another vehicle ($4.5k of damage and out of a vehicle for 3wks). Today, I'm driving on the highway, and the car begins to***** and lose speed, despite giving it gas. The "check engine soon" light is flashing, the car is making a ticking noise, and the car feels like it is going to shut off. Luckily, I made it home. The sound seems like it is coming from somewhere low on the car (under carriage), there is no change in electricity (radio/lights are working properly). I'm not sure what the issue is, although I was told that my flex pipe has rusted (hole) and needs to be replaced and I am overdue for an oil change. Could these be the issue?

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

I took the car to Adv. Auto Parts, where they diagnosed it: Cylinder 1 Misfiering. Then, took it to the Nissan dealer, where they re-diagnosed it ($100- they're policy). I had A bad back coil ($150 for the part and about $200 for the labor). Thanks for your help! Hope this will help someone else. No more Nissan's for me-too much of a headache!
