2004 Chrysler Sebring Putting Out Heat Took Garage They Told Water Pump

My Chrysler was not putting out heat. I took it to a garage, where they told me I need a water pump but should consider putting a motor in it due to the over heating there may be gasket or head damage done. Is this possible?
