Chevrolet Colorado Axle Problem

Hey ya'll I recently took my truck in for a check engine light. The repair was quick and relatively inexpensive. However, the mechanic brought to my attention two items they advised me to take care of:

1. Replace Spark Plugs @ $200
2. Replace front axle seals (due to leakage) @ $542

These are the prices given after I checked with the dealer to compare (the dealer was cheaper). My question is are these fair prices in your opinion? I'm considering doing the plugs by myself, but I'd have to purchase a few tools. I don't feel like I could handle the axle seals, however. Thanks for any advice.
