2004 cavalier 4 cylinder. Would this be a timing chain? It started as a ticking noise when first started, now its more like a rattle when started a periodically warm.

Does it sound like it's under valve cover? You could pull it and check if anythings broke/worn?

It sounds like its coming from the front near the pulleys. I also have had a couple of times were the car turned over different, kinda slow.

I don't think so, the valve cover says EcoTech 2.2 no other readings.

It's entirely possible that the timing chain is making the noise. It has a long chain and uses the same nylon guides that wear causing a lot of timing chain slack.
