Should it be real tough to get the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel return line?

We identified the problem and got the new fuel pressure regulator from autozone seems like the right part). Just doesn't seem like it wants to get on the fitting on the return line. I had 3 different people try to push that thing on and it wouldn't go. We lubed the fitting with clean engine oil. Should it be that tough?

What motor?

We use red grease or wd40 but yes, it is tough to get it to seat considering the amount of pressure it is under.

3400 V6. We figured it would be tough, but it didn't seem like it should be THAT tough. We'll try red grease today.
