Changed coils and plugs after about 2 days it started to knock in the top end. It has good oil pressure and runs smooth. Checked for broken lifters but could not see any. Timing belt is due to be changed but with this top end knock i'm not sure if that will cure the problem

You might pull off the valve cover andlook and seeif there is cam or lifter wear, it would be easy to see as the cam lobes would be ground down. Also disconnect fan belt and see if noise goes away it may be an accessory making the noise.
